A year after the Great Schism rocked the Empire, the people of Gateway are hit with another shock, the death of their Emperor and Keeper, Rourke Caprios, in late October 509. It was announced that the attempt to close the Gateway, the cause of the Schism the year prior, did not completely seal it and it was only with the Keeper's sacrifice of his own life that truly sealed the Gateway. His heir, Jordan Caprios is still a young boy and until he comes of age, the Emperor has named his First Knight, Mihovil Pasternak, and Imperial Chamberlain, Helena Soranus, as Regents of the Empire of Gateway, both forsaking their former titles and, it turns out, were wed by the Emperor just before he died.
