Flit's history isn't quite clear on how such a hyperactive, overly cheerful, brilliant child came into existence. As far as what she tells others, she was born in Tinker's Bench, Miller's Isle in Draught. Her mother and father were joined in an ongoing handfasting, which is not an uncommon arrangement in Draught. What was uncommon is that this handfasting resulted in a child and lasted for twelve years.

It is typically frowned upon that a handfasting would result in a child, but Flit showed incredible aptitude for mechanics. Even more incredible, she seemed to be almost souly concerned about design and application which dragged her years behind other children in other developmental skills. She was not a dim child, but was disinterested in anything which could not be related to mechanics, inventing and the like. Because of this, as she matured in body, she did not so in attitude. Even at 14, she still clings to that carefree, jovial, rambunctious, self-assured nature. Leading to many jokes about her mother spending too much time in poorly ventilated storehouses while pregnant.

Regardless, at the age of five, she did not speak a word, but showed amazing dexterity and began piecing together small scrap metal pieces in no discernible order or reason. This intrigued her father, who began taking the young toddler to seminars, storehouses, mechanics labs with him. At the age of seven, she still could not utter a word nor really dress herself, but began building simple small machines with her father's assistance, working with levers, pulleys, wedges, the most simple of machines were her toys. Flit developed quickly after her father and mother became more active in her education. At seven, her first word was "piston" and she began learning how to read and follow simple blueprints. At ten, she began suggesting things to her father and asking questions on efficiency and how things were being done. Unfortunately, while her grasp on mechanics and inventing was amazing, when she was interviewed for the School of Science, she was denied simply on the principal that she would be a hindrance in the classroom due to some of her more childish and eccentric mannerism. Her parents decided to continue tutoring her in private.

At the age of eleven her father and her ventured to the testing fields to try out a collaborative piece he had been working on for some years with four other inventors. As she was watching from a distance with her mother, the test run went awry. Due to some interesting alchemical parts, the machine literally blew up and the area was dropped into a condemned state (as sometimes happens on the testing fields). None of the five inventors survived. Flit is /extremely/ proud of her father for this reason, believing that he died as a true inventor.

Flit's mother fell into depression. Not just depression but self destruction, leaving her eleven year old daughter essentially on her own. Flit continued on undisturbed. Meaning she continued to build, draw and sketch, as happy as can be. After the first year, the family's finances fell into ruin and Flit began submitting designs and small built contraptions to her father's primary distributor and financial backer, Locke Investments. This drew some curiosity from the owners and eventually Ethan Locke came to the small country home to investigate.

There he discovered little Flit, twelve years old, grinning and giggling as she pulled apart a harpsichord and seemed to be making additions to it in order to expand the range as well as the volume of the notes depending on pressure applied.

Impressed by the girl and learning of her and her mother's troubles, Ethan took the girl under his wing and offered to let /him/ become /her/ assistant. Yeah! He is Her assistant! and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! After a great sacrifice on Flit's part in allowing the man piggyback off of her ideas, she decided it was best to join him in Gateway since he obviously doesn't know how to handle himself without the Supreme Grand Inventress Flit Fortuna.

Personal Quirkiness

  • For whatever reason, Flit is extremely proud of her father, not just her father but particularly how he died.
  • Flit tells people that the gear bind she wears around her neck is from the machine that killed her father.
  • She claims that she has a sister named Sophia Magenta Lorenco Charlotte Rose Marie, and no matter what Ethan tells you, she is not just a doll!
  • While most girls her age are at least curious about boys, she has no idea what the big deal is.
  • She despises any attempt to 'help her out'. Chalk it up to her extremely prideful side.
  • At any time, she may be carrying any number of spring loaded gizmos, contraptions and prototypes which may or may not decide to malfunction at any time.
  • She has two Ferrets, Baron Reginald Von Zigganfaust III & The Great Jin Jin Tititi Hoo Choo: Private Citizen. She's trained them to assist her and claims they're more useful than Ethan, anyway.
  • She hates the following:
    • Rabbits
    • Cranberries
    • All teas of any variety
    • Rust
