Lady Laraine is the second child of the former Duke and Duchess of the Isle of Mists. Born six years after her brother Lazarus, she started her education by toddling about after him and watching though soon after she began lessons of her own. Her studies included everything a young Lady and spare heir would need know but took to the fields of astronomy, music, and of course magic eagerly.

Tragedy struck in the form of a pestilence which decimated parts of the island's population, the entire ruling family among those stricken. When it was all said and done in 483, new gravestones sprang up on the island bearing many names, those of the duke and duchess among them. She was 11 years old at the time. She retained the title Marchioness from that point until she stepped back from the line so that Meredith could reign as Duchess on December, 8th 501. At the loss of her parents, her studies became to even greater import and she has been diligently at them since. After many years of fervent study she had attained the rank of Master Air Elementalist.

Along with her studies of the Winds she undertook study of a childhood fascination of hers. At around twenty years of age she took to Gryphon's Reach at intervals to study the Gryphons. It is said perhaps this intensive study is why she only took one path of magical study. She worked along with the locals and trainers until after many years of study she was able to ride upon a 'tamed' Gryphon. One of few people to be allowed to do so. Despite this her studies led her to discourage the taming of the creatures. Papers she did write on the subject, it was thought she would be writing a full discourse on the subject but before she could finish she was called herself to other duties. Her Nephew.

With her brother settling into a family of his own, Laraine looked to the protection of her nephew with the death of his stepmother. She presented herself to Duke Raziel as an Aunt and Protector to her nephew. At first there was reluctance in the agreement, but when the dust settled, the arrangement worked out well. Laraine fell in love with Solomon's stepsister, Nina and was declared Aunt to her as well. Giving the children a maternal presence other than their nannies.

Her duty to her family is only rivaled to her duty to Mists. So when the Fang of Imperius called her away to help on Mists with some problems, she reluctantly agreed to go. To leave behind her beloved niece and nephew, and Gateway to do her duty. The work was that which was exhausting to an Elemental mage and once completed she retired to her estates to recuperate and regain her strength and health.

Upon her return Laraine found there had been much changed in the tower. Solomon removed from Raziel's custody due to an ill seen betrothal. She did go to council to see to his return and instead of the Duke being granted custody, it was to Laraine the child was entrusted. Certain restrictions and expectations set in place. Things seem to move relatively smoothly from that point, well in her sphere protected well from the politics that surrounded her in the tower. In August 508 the world seemed to tip upon its head, many people arrested including the Duke. The Marquis and Baronet taken from Laraine's arms by the Knights. Eventually both would be returned to her, but the Duke would never again return to rule.

This let to odd times for the Lady who long ago set back from the political arena. A time where she was considered to rule as her parents did. Yet before anything could be decided on that score the Great Schism did rock the Empire and politics did take a back seat to just living day to day and dealing with the dead and dying of the empire and the certainty of death for all of Mists with the Breath of Imperius now gone from Mists. She set her mind to keeping a census of those living and dying, opening her family estate on Polaris to the healers.

When finally a cure presented itself, she tasked herself with being a part of it given that her skills as an Master Air Elementalist would be required and so few remained at full strength. So with Tirzah, Bernadette and many other mages she set to the working to bring about one of the elements of the cure. A working that would kill several mages and a guard and would render many of the others, including herself, quite injured. She returned to Polaris to recover, only seen again in the day before the great working to look like a woman battered and bruised. While many did die, she and her family survived the working and tragedy of Mists though still needed time to recover along with many others.

After near two months of seclusion she finally did return to Mists, the day after the announcement of the new Duke and Duchess Regent of Mists, Joseph and Lazuli. Within days she was named Baroness Regent of their Barony, Moonshadow, on January 18, 509. It is yet to be seen her true feelings on this arrangement save by a few people but so far she seems at peace and has spoken no ill of it as she settles into the Moonshadow suites. Still she remains in custody of both Solomon and Nina.

Laraine is fiercely loyal and somewhat protective of her only family. She possesses a bit of a carefree attitude save when high manners and formality are needed. A smile often seen of her face. Her ability to manage any situation thrown at her and to keep a fairly cool head well known throughout her home duchy.

• She is also a Harpist and Singer, talents she gained at her mother's side quite young and has proceeded in her education along with her mage studies. It is often how she meditates or relaxes.

• Though she has the proper manners of most well born, she is comfortable enough around those that are not. She has been a benefactress to some young orphans around the city. Finding them places in noble houses and educations.

• In the Magic community known to have studied Gryphons passionately alongside her Elemental studies. To the point that she was near completion of a paper about them when she was called to Guardian Solomon. One of few people known to have ridden them.

• She has two projects at present she is putting her influence behind:

~To find patronages for poor and disadvantaged performers in the city. Any needing patronage and any who would patron need only contact her.

~Special Educational projects in the castle for those living there in of every Duchy. Finding different academics, artisans and craftsmen to teach the children special projects where they learn practical applications of the lessons their tutors to teach them. The other reason she has promoted such was to encourage bonds and learning of each other at an early age.
