Shala is a shy and quiet child, though when she is with those she trusts, she is more than willing to talk. She is intelligent and loves all of her lessons, except for mathematics. She suspects that she only dislikes the subject because her tutor is mean, and if she had a nicer one, maybe it wouldn't be so tedious. She is an artistic apprentice to Juste Chevalier and can often be found with her sketchbook. Shala is generally an obedient child, but she does have her own ideas about what being a good girl means. She is accompanied nearly everywhere by her white bulldog, Sir Balthasar.
She is a recent inductee to the Order of the Octopus, and has been consulted on such grave issues as "Should we limit it to nine members only?" and "Can babies be friends, really?" She is ecstatic to have friends close to her age for once in her life, her previous shyness having prevented her from getting to know those outside of her sisters.

| | Khalani Paggion - Khalani has never really been allowed to be a sister to Shala, but instead has had to act as her parent from a very young age. This is how Shala sees her: as a parent, not a sister, with all of the benefits and drawbacks of such a relationship. Secretly, Shala thinks that her sister is the best artist on Gateway.

| | Natalia Paggion - Natalia, though she too has acted much as a parent to Shala, is the one to which she runs with all of her fears and hopes. Before Natty moved out of the suite, she would wake up to Shala curled up next to her, having crawled in bed with her after a nightmare.

| | Meliana Paggion - Meliana is the closest in age to Shala, only one year older. And she is a Bad Girl, always sneaking away from lessons and doing unladylike things she is not supposed to. Of course, Shala feels it necessary to let her know how wrong her actions are.

| | Sir Balthasar - Sir Balthasar is the best friend a girl can have. He's better than a tutor, better than a brother, better than even most sisters. He is very protective when he needs to be, but the rest of the time, he's just... not. He wears a pink leather collar.

She met the young Princess one day when summoned to attend her artistic master, and found a kindred spirit in the younger girl, whose own company was primarily family, tutors, and guards. Though her guard is Sir, and he's a knight. And he's not nearly as attractive or as affectionate as Sir Balthasar.

| | Juste Chevalier - In addition to being his artistic apprentice, she is learning the language of Pais de Leuvier from him. She thinks he has some weird ideas, but she's willing to learn if it means she can study in Pais someday.

| | Mathis Cardiff - She loved him like her older brother, but he hurt her sister, so who knows? She hasn't even seen him since he left.

| | Dorian Claremont - Once, she thought the then Marquis was going to marry her sister, and she drew a picture of them together. Then he was betrothed to someone else. She hasn't drawn him a picture since.

| | Iain Arx - Shala drew him in the baths once. He was nearly nude, but not as unclad as she would have preferred. He was, however, holding a fox, which more than made up for it. She painted a portrait from the drawing, but soon after she finished, it went missing.
