Solphin Acaran/Associates
From Crossroads Wiki
An ever-growing, ever-changing, ever-moving compilation.
With those words from her compatriot, that little gypsy scamp's head is tossed back without care, a dusky ribbon of unabashed joyfulness and humor spun around to shine without regard for what or who it lands upon. Recoiling from her own mirth, Solphin swings forward and grins into your face, ticking her finger back and forth with a wink, "Ah, nu nu nu, that is where you make the mistake." grinning from ear to ear with that crafty shine in her eyes, the tomboy crosses her arms over her chest to continue. "Acquaintances, I have a million of because my mind tells me so," her eyes narrow in emphasis, thrusting a finger into your chest without reserve, "But it is your /soul/ that tells you when it's found a friend."

Associates by Choice
Andre Calypse: A gypsy man she literally ran into one evening just after her birthday. The two found a common bond in their culture and history and grew to be fast friends. Nearly inseparable as they claimed one other as Brother and Sister, when she's not locked away in duty, it almost always goes without saying that they're off somewhere. She acknowledges him as the cocky and prideful acrobat that he plainly is, and though times are strained now, Phinn still carries a die-hard loyalty and affection for him and the others. It was with Andre, Xana and Zora that Solphin stepped forward with to receive brands during the Gypsy Cleansing of the Empire. The four now live together.
Roxana Arcos: Another of the extended gypsy 'family' that has come to Gateway, Xana was one of the four branded. Phinn met her completely by accident as she walked with Andre through the North Plaza, speaking in that rhythmic secret language when Roxana overheard them. Moments later, the fortune teller was just another one of the family. Relations between the two are warm, as can be expected, as Solphin took up yet another sister. She openly admits to admiring the girl's can-do, positive attitude and her sense of humor that seems to mesh so well in the hodge podge family that they've formed.
Zora Calypse: Andre's blood sister and the Yin to Xana's Yang. The young gypsy 'healer' came to Gateway with naught but her omens, her horse and her Vardo to ply her trade and see the world. Solphin looks on the young woman with a certain amount of pride and peace, admiring her true north compass and good sense.
Isolde Lieberman (MISSING): It goes without saying that the Baroness would be here. You'd be hard pressed to find a single soul who understands a damn thing that goes on between Iss and Phinn, while half the time they seem to be driving each other up the wall. Solphin's Liege and Employer for four years, the Golden Girl of Draught was the one who first encountered the scamp and continued to employ her until Solphin's resignation shortly before the Gypsy Cleansing of 507. Some might say there is a sordid past, love/hate and by all means anything but simple, but Solphin regards her with the utmost respect and protectiveness, even when fuming pissed at the passionate and sometimes mercurial woman. Now, missing, Solphin's feelings are complex on the matter, though few seem to ask her, outright.
Demetrius Lieberman (MISSING): Iss' son, Solphin has looked over Demetrius since he was an infant. He may be overwhelming to handle for the Baroness, but 'Demi' is predictably the twin that Solphin gets along with the best. Loud, messy, always questioning, his passion and thirst for life and general joyfulness makes Solphin's heart smile every time she sees him. She doesn't even mind that he calls her SolFish.
Persephone Lieberman (MISSING): The other half to Demi's energetic whirlwind, 'Sephie' is the other twin Solphin has been privy to know since the night they were born. While she has an understandable fondness for her brother, there is still an unmistakable like for the Baroness' daughter. Even with her peculiar form of play, her strange way of speaking flawless sentences and long bouts of being eerily quiet.
Iorwerth Crestwood: Iorwerth is proof that you don't need a serene, supportive environment in order to heal. Another soul she met quickly upon her arrival to Gateway, their 'friendship' started based around sarcastic remarks, dry wit and Solphin's unflappable cheer that kept her going back for more. She regards him as one of the best men on the isle, as well as one of the most insufferable and arrogant, and will tell anyone just that. Yet, when she needs a good argument or is unable to heal herself, she never complains (past the usual jabs) when under the care of his healers or the Chief Healer, himself. So goes the man she calls 'wife'.
Card: She's been told it is not 'acceptable' for a Lady to consort with such obvious street scum, but really? The two have never been linked in any business right, but Solphin was quick to befriend the self-proclaimed man of fortune back when she was a chamberlain and he was second in command to Gaspar, and sometimes, you just can't let these things go. Another man she trusts and calls 'friend' because of an unspoken understanding that reaches back to her gypsy nature. A shared worldliness about them. Not too sparsely peppered with jabs, jokes and dry wit. She visited Card when he was imprisoned in the cells and from then on, the two seem to have a kind of camaraderie about them.
Work Folk
Aaric Barca: Virtually no contact with her Liege's former Consort, Solphin's opinions on the newest Duke of Guardian are hard to wrest from her and usually met with a shrug of nonchalance and a quick subject change.
Aileana Ashlan: Literally the first person to greet Solphin as she came to the isle. For that, Solphin will probably always regard the Duchess with a note of respect. Not to mention she seems to take a shine to anyone who's as open about brawling and their personal life as the Duchess seems to be. She makes her laugh and always has fun sitting back and just listening.
Amalia Crestwood (Dec): There was some notable tension here between the Lady Healer's Hall and Solphin. At the time, the Lady was courting Memnoch, and due to some...extenuating circumstances, it's simply safer to say that there was some friction. It's hard to say if Solphin even realizes the Lady's passing. If she does, she doesn't seem to be too bothered by it.
Asha Barca (Dec): The Former Duchess Guardian was a person Solphin met in only a few circumstances. Once to question her over the disappearance of Isolde's children when the Baroness was kidnapped and the children were under Solphin's watch. The second being when Solphin was being shadowed by cultists and told the Duchess, who immediately cursed Solphin with her first set of guards, Biggs and Wedge, and made a city wide sweep. Which resulted in the discovery of Vox in the city, death of Raziel at Phineas' hand, the condemnation of the Green Fields Duke and all that mess.
Athar Soranus (MISSING): Solphin /swears/ that she's met him, but she can't precisely remember where, or when, or how. Though she does remember a pleasant conversation at each encounter and a dinner date that she forgot to take advantage of.
Catelyn Claremont (Dec): The Duke's wife and Duchess, her Liege's mother. Solphin hasn't had too much contact with the woman, but the discussions that they have had seemed fair in her opinion, if a little unexpected.
Chase Stevens: Baron Regent Destine. The New Bossman. Lord Omenal. Above all else, simply put, he is Chaser. Her former neighboring Lord, the two have a friendly back and forth and a history of Solphin yelling at him the next minute to keep his damn head on straight, and the next moment, laughing and joking. She should probably have a more professional relationship with the man who hired her on as Chamberlain Destine, again, but...ah well. He's not complaining. And if he did, she'd probably just tell him to shut up.
Crispin Athelstan: A young fellow from Guardian that she encountered in a few small social situations. Curious kid. Nice kid, but curious.
Dorian Claremont: The new Duke is still something of an enigma for Solphin. Though she's met him. She's talked to him. Hell, they've had drinks at the dockside before, there isn't a whole lot she can say about him other than he seems to be a studious young man.
Helena Soranus: Much like her brother, Solphin remembers very little on the specifics besides a missed dinner and a pleasant, if quiet seeming woman. Though, during an encounter at the orphanage, Solphin seemed to have insulted the Lady without realizing it, later having it explained to her by the Mage Maldis and feeling...pretty damn sheepish about it.
Joshua Dhaval: If you ask her, Solphin isn't really certain just how she met Joshua, but she is certain that she has. She'll even claim that she is fairly fond of the lad and shared a talk or two with him that seemed to make quite the impression on her. Of all the purists, she probably will say she trusts him the most. So says that shell necklace she wears, as well.
Karyleine Codex: A great listener, if you ask Solphin, Karyleine has a fantastic mind and a vicious sense of humor that the scamp can't get enough of. Why? Etiquette challenge. Ask. I dare you.
Khalani Paggion: The youngest Baroness on the isle, the youngest Duchess on the council and probably the one Solphin feels a slight kick in the positive for. Having met on more than one occasion in delightfully odd circumstances (such as falling asleep in flower beds), once Khalani found herself in line as Duchess, the branded scamp seemed to be traveling more and more into the Draught tower. She has nothing bad to say about her. Ever.
Leon Maritus: She's met him. The two haven't had more than a handful of talks or encounters, but she will contest that she finds him 'agreeable', if quiet. He lost a bet when Solphin beat his betrothed in the tournament, owing her and Tobias both dinner.
Linette Barca: Solphin 'met' Linette when she was still a squire on a training exorcise that Gerard was putting them through. They didn't speak then, but years later in the Spring Tournament, the two similarly built, feisty young women would be paired up to fight. In the end, the scamp came out on top, but not without a sizable bruise on her face to remind her of it. Solphin was noted to say that the Baroness was 'officially one of [her] favorite damn people on this bloody damn isle' after their match.
Nicodemos Crowley: If they were trying to find the most UN-Memnoch person in the known world to take over Elixir Vitae, they've succeeded. Even down to the appearance, the very dark-haired, dark skinned, dark eyed, dark humored Lord is a very different man than his snow-white mortician cousin. Though, Solphin seems to like him just fine. A great game player, good drinker and he appreciates word play? How could she /not/ like her former beau's replacement?
Parsifal Soranus: The new baron regent of Ethos. Solphin has sent him a letter before, but other than that, there's been very very little contact between them. Whatever was exchanged shortly between them, she seems to approve.
Philomena Caprios: Empress of the Isles and probably (to her surprise, and yet not) the most empathetic person that Solphin knows of on the entire isle, and she's not afraid to tell people of that fact, either. She's still not sure what to think of her, what with the Gypsy Cleansing and the Fall of Forester business.
Ravelle Soranus (Dec): In honesty, Solphin can't remember encountering Ravelle except for by messenger. That been said, she doesn't have much to say except the Baronet has /very/ pretty handwriting.
Raziel Devonshire: One of the first members of nobility that Solphin met, she has a hard time putting a pin on the mistian Duke. She will fully admit that she believes that he has a strong dislike of her due to a verbal dressing down he gave her when she first became Lady. Past that, there is something about a joke...demons filled with candy and elves being filled with bubblegum?
Rhyse Claremont * (Dec): The former Duke, now deceased former Duke and her liege's father, Solphin has only had one notable brush with Rhyse: When the Twins Went Missing. I think that speaks for itself.
Rourke Caprios: Oil and Water. Fire and Kerosene. Some things do not mix, and if they do, they are explosive. Once upon a time, Solphin noted the Emperor of the Isles to be an understanding human being whom she enjoyed conversing with, even during uncomfortable discussions. And yet...after he declared her entire culture to be treasonous, and murdered her family in cold blood, it's safe to say that her opinion has changed. The turning point may have been a pointed meeting in the Audience Chamber, which seemed to be immediately before she resigned from Isolde's employ. Or maybe it was that the Emperor had a friendship with the outcast gypsy Xylinka. Or maybe it's something entirely different. It's safe to say that the two have come a long way from splash fights in the Sea of Veils.
Shayne Barca: Who?
Acquaintances
Addison Brandivere: Like her brother, Solphin met Addison before they were exposed as ward to Vox. She's met up with the girl a few times since then and generally, relations seem genial if not outright warm.-- As long as Isolde and Tiege weren't around...
Ahnlana Orriya (Dec): A barmaid with whom Solphin is acquainted. It's hard to tell just what relations are between the two, but Solphin's never regarded her with anything but genial conversation and a generally friendly hand. That she's aware of at least.
Alessia Adair: One of the citizens of Moria, Solphin met Alessia on one of her many trips back home and actually began speaking to her at the funeral of Lady Jessaphine. A time later when she ran into the girl on Gateway, she was elated completely.
Annabella Forester (MISSING): She knows her. She likes her. While time is not kind between these two, Solphin has never and likely will never speak a damn bad thing about Bella. And Heavens help you if you do.
Annabelle Caprios: There was a time when Solphin looked to the Princess as someone she could easily speak with on nearly any subject. Understanding, kind and undeniably easygoing, she likes her and sympathized with her after the death of her husband. Even with some tension hovering there was sad but accepting of it when Annabelle decided to leave the Empire with her son.
Carina March: Having met the hatter in a most explosive way as the woman came into the isle of ale and socked Maldis square in the face, Solphin gives her points for having moxie and never passes up a conversation with her if she can help it.
Caspian Fernwick: Known of him as a squire, encountered him as the sheriff and now still pestering him as the deputy, Solphin sees her encounters with Caspian as tentative but growing. She /will/ still get him to fly that kite, damnit.
Cedric Riemen: The man gave her a chance and gave her a job once arriving on Gateway. The shared only a handful of conversations before his death in the earthquake of 503, but she supported him as Citizen Speaker during the debates and did wear a band of mourning when he passed.
Charleston Pemberton: Charlie! Ah the only man in the isle who's parents had more trouble naming them than hers. She doesn't get around to him as much as she likes, but damn it when she hears him, there's no denying that he brings out the scamp in her and she loves every minute of it.
Cloak: A common thread here seems to be that Solphin collects people who enjoy one of two things: A good fight (verbal or non) and a good drink. Cloak became a friend by offering to kill Solphin's guards over drinks. While she declined 'because then [she'd] have to train another pair in', there was a jovial relationship formed between 'Rags' and the 'Wannabe'. A relationship that continued all the way until the cloaked creature moved to Landry.
Cristofer Tracey: A healer from Draught, Cris was often in company with Rafe, Isinglass and Solphin as they sat around the fire and shot the breeze. When he first came to the isle, Solphin was more than happy to write a letter to Iorwerth and give him a foot in the door.
Dag: Eternally bemused by this street scamp turned orphan proper, Solphin never manages to get out of a conversation with him without losing a coin or two. She's also helped him in a spot when his yo-yo's gotten away from him, even if the poultice's smell like hell.
Ellie Clapton: One of her dubbed 'unwards', during the cultist scares that shut the castle down during the Harvest Festival of 504, Solphin found the girl without a place to stay and thusly offered her cout room up to the girl. After finding out that the girl and her brother had no place in the village to stay either, Solphin offered to pay for a room at Brownstone. She charges them pictures as 'rent'.
Eira Arden-Ellenta: A healer from Solphin's own lordship, she was acquainted with the girl before she was given the position. Finding her agreeable for a time, there was a rather notable blow up over a man and Isolde's kidnapping that left the two not exactly on speaking terms, even after Eira left the isle to continue her training on Draught.
Fairfax Brandivere (Dec): She met Fairfax before he and his sister were exposed as wards to Vox. Not much has changed between here and there. She knows him. She likes him and was shocked to hear of his brutal murder in 508. Stuffing a body in a chest. What kind of end is that?
Gerard Versailles: Literally one of the first souls she met when she came to Gateway. Finding the Knight walking along the beach, after some quick bantering there seemed to be a connection between the 'Great Bear' and 'Tin Kitten' that even time can't quite shake completely. Just ask the bear carving in his office or the sassy stone kitten statue. Even after the Gypsy Cleansing, Phinn didn't seem to hold it against him. Orders...are orders.
Gregory Clapton: Ellie's energetic brother and one of her other 'unwards'. Solphin has a tendency to encourage his boyish moments of non-conformity and had an immediate shine when he mistook her and called her 'mister'.
Gwyneth Dukane: Sometimes relationships are forged in grief. When the strong and mostly silent tribeswoman let Solphin know of her husband's death, the words 'I'm sorry' were never once uttered, instead, a deep bow of respect passed between the women. It was in that small gesture of understanding that the two seemed to forge some kind of acquaintanceship. Follow that with a few meetings at the tea shop and Solphin seems to think very highly of the noble tribeswoman.
Innocentia Candide: The Jury is still out, but hey, she sent her presents! That's gotta count for something.
Isinglass Ortberg: Artist Isinglass and Solphin got off to a quick amicable friendship, which devolved into a bickering duo, then slowly evened out when jets cooled. On a good day, she buys the starving artist art supplies and tea. On a bad day, she pelts him with snowballs. It works.
Jasten: A little known name if you don't know a thing about squires in the past. Once more one of the first people Solphin encountered in Gateway, she attributes her first recoil at the very thought of flirting to the squire and will still refer to him to this day under those very circumstances.
Jessaphine Peirce * (Dec): The deceased Lady Moria was a woman that Solphin knew as her liege, her boss' best childhood friend and a half gypsy, much like herself. While Solphin didn't always agree with her decisions or approaches on things, she was stricken by her death. Attempting to retrieve her body from Whitecliff, she was more than upset when she was rebuffed, but gladdened when more than a year later, the body was returned.
Juste Chevalier: A friend. A credit to his country. A damn prince. An Artiste! The fellow who is to blame/credit for the portrait of Solphin hanging up in the Museum of Art entitled 'The Summer's Muse'. Something she laughs about to this day. But damn, he passes out the best cigars...The two have a very amiable relationship though their meetings are sparse. Indeed, Juste even bestowed one of the rare invitations to the Grande Ball to Solphin in 508, after her branding.
Katherine Fernwick: Katie is really one of Solphin's more favorite people on the isle. Sure, she can't drink, but the woman is always a good time. There's something about sitting back and listening to Brother Andre pick on her and listening to her lip back that manages to put a big smile on Solphin's face.
Leo (MISSING): Once noted by her cousin as 'more a gypsy than /we/ are!', this rogue is someone Solphin seems to run into. A lot. Less frequently now, but every occasion was more than memorable, I assure you. He is proof that there are just some people you can't persuade to leave you alone.
Malachi Windermere (MISSING): Having met the petite man when he was a Baron, Solphin was approached while recovering in the infirmary after attacking a cultist who tried to assassinate the then Duchess Guardian. Once again finding that she and the odd, giggling, sissy of a man clicked, the two seemed to have a very odd relationship in the making.
Maldis Voltaire (MISSING): Meeting the mage again and again under some odd circumstances, including an all out brawl where the necromancer locked her and others in the isle of ale and drew up the undead to try to kill them, Solphin seems to have forgotten all that and speaks of 'Old Green Eyes' with some vicious playfulness in her eyes. When he comes up at all.
Matthew Forester (WANTED/MISSING): Her dead husband's cousin. His protector. Former Baron, now in disgrace. The reason that Tobias is dead. Mixed feelings abound, as can be expected.
Memnoch Crowley (MISSING): So, a gypsy and a mortician walk into a bar and...the rest is history. Not all relationships start that way, but this one certainly did. The Lord of Liquor and Death became a quick companion to Solphin when she came to Gateway, but he was anything but a stranger to her when they met. The tall, lanky, pigment-impaired, over-drugged Lord and the small, athletic, dark, free-spirited scamp were close and even rumored to be engaged at one point, even if Solphin loudly protested the claim. Yet somewhere between the earthquake that rocked Gateway in 503 and Solphin's rise to Lady in 504, some how the strange pair were seen together less and less. To this day she occasionally will speak of him, (or more often his companion and skull walking cane, Roger) fondly or with a slightly saddened note.
Mindela Sharpp: The quiet but curious girl Solphin encountered at the Festival's Fortune Telling session is still something of an enigma to her. Having given the girl a fortune, having her heart go out to the girl and in turn being flat out awestruck by her reaction, Solphin was noted for saying to her brother that 'it's people like /her/ that make me think there's hope for this place yet.' She's not done with her, yet.
Mya Gyldenhels: Seems every time these two run into each other, Solphin has nothing but amazing outbursts of adoration for the outspoken tattoo artist. Having gained her rambunctious support during the Spring Festival Tournament, Solphin only finds herself growing more and more fond of Mya.
Phaedrus Forester: A whole three encounters with the Knight, Duke, Citizen, Baron. They're always 'interesting' to say the least. Not every day your face gets attacked by a pissed off Forester. Tongue and all. Her public opinion? Not a bad guy. Oliver though? Oliver is the charmer.
Phaeton Forester: A man she so rarely encounters, and has in some very odd circumstances with some very odd companions, none the less, Solphin seems nonchalantly fond of the Non-Forester-Forester.
Phineas Ashlan (Dec.): The Other Phin. The Murdering Duke, Ex-Duke, Cultist, Ex-Cultist, Re-Duke, Criminal is one of the first people she met in the city, along with his wife, Aileana. There's not much to say or many meetings to cite between the two. She doesn't consider him a work contact as much as just another man. And a good man at that. There is a level of respect and approval with which she regards him, though much quieter now after his death and declaration as a criminal and the Fall of Forester...
Phoenix Forester (WANTED/MISSING): Confusing as it may sound, Solphin's praise for Phoenix is much quieter after the former Venator was declared an enemy of the Empire, went into hiding and now is being hunted for conspiracy to kill the Prince. She cannot seem to forget that this is the man who brought the body of Jessaphine back for burial, and her respect she carried for his former Ranger vocation. The two had vanished into Destine country and gypsy trails a while back, each returning separately afterward, seemingly never to speak again, which she seems perfectly accepting of. Don't let it confuse you when she refers to him as 'the Veshengo'.
Pyrphoros Sendai (Dec): Renata's older brother. The much more proper, robotic older brother. Good enough guy even though he refuses to call Solphin by her name rather than her occupation. He directed beach traffic during the devil fish escapade and also was the last person to see her when she went missing in July of 506.
Rafferty Grayham: The former owner of the Coffee and Tea shop, the two became quick friends as the man from the Fens and the gypsy scamp had many stories to pass between one another, not to mention a fondness for snowball fights and wrestling. Many a night was spent talking in front of the tea shop hearth, often times in company with Isinglass and Cristofer. He's the reason that the Tea Maiden Poppy and Solphin are close to this day.
Redlue Violet: Her dance partner, the pair of them have an impromptu lesson ever time it rains or fogs. She's also rather fond of the man's skills in making the fog sway with his magic, often referring to him in company as the 'Fog Dancer' or 'Rainbow Mage' on account of his unfortunate name.
Renata Sendai: Solphin was fond of Renata nearly from the first moment she was introduced to her. She finds her a strong-willed, level-headed young woman. She attributes that to the fact that she wasn't born into nobility. Probably a main reason she likes her so much.
Nysra Kallikrates * (Dec.): Her former Astronomy Teacher. Needless to say, she dropped her classes.
Tarothin: The former Chamberlain to the Duchess Green Fields is something of a touch and go subject with Solphin. To those privy to public knowledge at that time, there was a point where Taro and Phinn were good friends. But these things have a way of changing. A Vox attack which left the man incapacitated in the infirmary and some troubled words and guilt left the two at ends.
Thorvald Absalon: The run ins with this character are few, and notable. His fondness for drink and particularly memorable appearance after his run in with Vox made him one of Solphin's favorite souls for any number of reasons. She tends to praise his entire family on his behalf, regardless of the fact that she knows almost none of them.
Tiege Soranus (Dec.): She knows him. Well, she's more likely to claim that she 'knew' him. Pen pals while he was still an advocate of the law, she claims to have felt rather close to the lad before his 'encounter' with the vampire Zipporah. Something about that drove a wedge between them, and from the way she goes quiet, it's probably something she blames more herself for than anything.
Timothy Crestwood: Iorwerth's Nephew. Amalia's Twin Brother. When you already have one point for you and one strike against you, how can Solphin resist? The man watched her compete in the coliseum, was wounded in the devil fish escapade and at last, Solphin met him when he was laid up in the infirmary. She likes him well enough, proving that there was obviously something 'wrong' with Amalia. She doesn't consider him a Lord as much as a victim of circumstance, much like herself. She may or may not have slipped him something to drink while he was in the infirmary. YOU CAN'T PROVE IT!
Tobias Acaran (Dec.): What can be said about the man she met while he was trying to play a prank on her? Oh, right, he's a pompass jerk. But along with being a pompass jerk, Solphin found their letters back and forth to be entertaining, not to mention a sense of understanding between the fielder-mage mutt and the gypsy-non scamp. Her pen pal from the same city, they had some very shaky beginnings once encountering one another face to face. Rumors flew, fur flew and messengers flew to pick up the pieces, and somewhere between a dare that blew out of proportion and a broken up engagement, well, you may be looking at the new Lord Moria in a few month's time, if rumors mean anything. Apparently they do as the two were married on December 30, 506. Then stripped in January 507. Tobias then was declared dead, on Mists later that spring.
Vaia Wendt: Knowing less her than knowing /of/ her through her brother Ranis, Solphin generally seems to have something against this girl. Whether it's because of her involvement with her brother while she was married or the more than slightly mysterious circumstances that she was imprisoned, her child killed by the knights and she was put under imperial care, who knows. Solphin is likely relieved that her brother is no longer pursuing the widow.
Weath Conway: A woodworker. A very unguardian guardian. Solphin went to him to make most of her office furniture, including the impressive desk that she still praises him left, right and sideways for. Even if he's one of those 'pretty boys'.
Zipporah Gilat* (Dec.): Solphin was taught never to speak ill of the dead. So by that rule alone, she could never say much about Zipporah, even when she was walking around. The two encountered each other a number of occasions through mutual acquaintances. First through Malachi, then later and more notably through Tiege. Don't ask. She wont say a word.
