Tobias Branridge (Acaran), Mage
The son of a Green Fields farmer and a Mistian earth mage, Tobias grew up with a good appreciation for the finer arts of manipulating the grounds that the world traverses over. Having trained to become an earth elementalist himself, he's now currently out looking to make his own way in the world.
Tobias held the distinction of serving in the City Guard of Crossroads during the service of two sheriffs, Bastien Arx and Lyolf Godfrey, one of the few mages turning their attention to the security and defense of the imperial capital. He honed his investigation skills and went a long way to confirming to an often skeptical, magic-leery population that arcane arts can be put to much good in service of the Emperor and the city proper. During the harvest festival on Green Fields, he summoned up animals to protect Aileana Ashlan, Duchess Green Fields, against an attack against her. Tobias further distinguished himself by assisting the Duke of Mists in clearing out the chapterhouse of the Order of Adamant, despite great personal danger, and correctly identifying the poison afflicting many of the search party.
However, in early 506 he failed to renew his contract for service with the City Guards; at least that is what is being suggested in certain quarters as he no longer patrols throughout the city. He has since taken a post as Professor of Practical Theories in the department of magic at Gateway University, possibly at the invitation of Chancellor Eleanor Caprios.
These days, the Professor is usually found around the school or his temporary lodging at the Isle of Beer, mostly working on his studies, his students, and his relationship to Lady Solphin Acaran. The latest he seems to have ended up married to in December 506.
Now, with Solphin stripped of title, the dissolution of her marriage to him can't be too far behind. Right?
Fortunately, that was not the case - because unfortunately, Tobias took on one last mission. On what was supposed to be a simple recon mission of a village on Mists turned into a disaster from which the Master Mage did not return. His personal belongings were scattered - his journal to his cousin, his torc to the woman that had become a kindred spirit. What became of what happened to the spot that Tobias was investigating is still - open.

Facts and Miscellaneous
- There are rumors to the relationship between Tobias and the Draughtian Advocate Cynara Dhaval. What is known is that she was one the mage's first cases in the the Guardsman's career.
- On Tobias's right wrist, he wears an arm torc of silver and bronze, shaped as a dragon's claw. At the connections of the claw there is a scale from a silver dragon.
- Despite rumors involving both Lady Moria and Princess Caprios, Tobias has also visited with Elizabeth Rhone and with the Duchess Green Field's cousin, Professor Elena Ashlan, who he often visits with at the Isle of Ale, a relationship between the schools of Agriculture and Magic.
- Even though he has retired from the City Guard, Tobias stays on retainer, as the Guard has few mages.
- Somehow, what started off as an innocent prank has only grown as Solphin Acaran and Tobias went from teasing letters to an ill-fated dare, to betrothment, and inevitably marriage.
