Monarchy
|
- Tyr is technically a monarchy, ruled by the Llafarge family, which can trace its blood line back to before written records to Roderick, first king of Tyr. The monarch acts as head of state, and is also an important symbol of national unity as the embodiment of Tyr's long and glorious history.
- According to tradition, the monarch is head of the executive branch of the government, an integral part of the legislature, head of the judiciary, the commander-in-chief of all the armed forces of the Crown, and 'supreme governor' of the established Church of Tyr. While that sounds like a lot of responsibility, the real power of the monarchy has been steadily reduced over the years to the point where the monarch is uninvolved with the day-to-day operation of the government. They are to remain officially impartial and act only on the advice of their ministers. Simply, the monarch reigns but does not rule.
- There are still some areas in which the reigning Monarch takes an active hand, such as representation during state visits. He also leads the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers. The Queen, (and in some instances throughout history a Princess) is the Chancellor of Tyr's universities.
- The current royal family was led by His Late Majesty Sean Llafarge and his wife Queen Dierdre Llafarge. Since the death in 504 of King Sean, their eldest child has taken the throne as Queen Sheridan I. Her king consort is a son of Pais de Leuvier's roi Michel Phillipe XII. The couple have a son, Crown Prince Francis Sean Roderick Llafarge, who was born in October, 506.

Councils
|
- The real power of Tyr rest with the Royal Council of Ministers and the Royal Council of Representatives.
- The Royal Council of Ministers is involved with all aspects of Tyrean government. The ministers are appointed internally by the staff of each ministry and approved by the legislature and the monarch.
- The Council of Ministers consists of:
- Minister of Security
- Minister of Trade
- Minister of Diplomatic Relations
- Minister of Cultural Affairs
- Minister for Magical Reseach
- High Admiral of the Royal Navy
- Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Marines
- Commanding General of the Royal Army
- Representative from the Royal Council
- The Royal Council of Representatives is made up of twenty five elected men and women who set overall internal policy for Tyr. The term of elected office is eight years with the elections staggered, so that in no one year do all the areas of representation hold elections.
- Laws passed by the Council of Representatives are sent to the Council of Ministers and then to the Monarch for approval. The Council of Ministers must approve the law by a simple majority for it to progress to the monarch’s desk. The monarch has the power to refuse to sign, but only three times, after which it becomes the law of the land. This right of refusal is very rarely used.
- Every man and woman over the age of 15 and born of Tyrean parents is allowed to vote. Immigrants are allowed to vote after being in residence for five years and having sworn fealty to Tyr.
